I finally got to watch Epic, and as long as you like animated movies, you’d like this one. From my previous review about the trailer, I wasn’t sure how I’d like it. I love Beyonce, so I thought I’d watch it just for her. Little did I know she dies within the first ten minutes of the movie. What I was expecting was a Thumbelina like adventure of a girl trying to find her way home. What I got, was a bit different.
Mk, the girl who gets shrunk to a miniature-sized “advanced” forest person, ends up on an adventure helping save the forest from evil. Of course there is love and a happy ending (sorry – I don’t count this as a SPOIL alert given that it is a Disney movie and I’ve never seen one to end with a sad or bad ending).
The balance of life and death and good and evil is a typical theme for movies like this, so I wasn’t expected. I enjoyed it for what it was and if I was young, it could very well be an amazing movie. The difference is I’m 22 and can only take the same story lines for animated movies that have been around for years. Overall, I would say it is worth renting if you like similar types of movies or if you have a child.
